Commercial Department Manager
Job Description
Expert understanding of construction contracts, commercial negotiations, and risk management.Lead and represent the commercial department in high-level client, management, and stakeholder meetings.Ensure compliance with commercial processes, contractual obligations, and FIDIC standards.Review and approve major commercial reports, financial analyses, price escalation applications, and contractual amendments.Lead the preparation, submission, and negotiation of contractual claims, including EOT, variations, and cost-related claims.Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and project commercial performance against approved budgets and profitability targets.Monitor project costs, revenue, gross margin, and cash flow to identify risks and improve profitability.Supervise billing cycles, invoices, collections, and receivables to ensure healthy project cash flow.Review and approve subcontract agreements, commercial terms, and payment certifications while mitigating supplier and subcontractor risks.Coordinate with project management, finance, planning, procurement, and technical teams to ensure alignment of commercial and operational objectives.Develop financial strategies, mobilization plans, and corrective action plans to address commercial deviations.Identify commercial risks and opportunities and provide strategic recommendations to support business growth and financial sustainability.Participate in tender reviews, pre-award evaluations, and major commercial decision-making processes.Guide, mentor, and develop the commercial team on technical, financial, and contractual matters.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.PMP certification is preferred.Professional certifications in contract management, claims management, or FIDIC are highly preferred (e.g., CLAC 30/40).Experience of 15+ years of solid commercial management experience in the construction sector, with a proven track record of at least 5 years in a senior managerial capacity handling fast-track or large-scale projects.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Strong knowledge of construction contracts, commercial management, and contract administration.Strong understanding of FIDIC and other contractual standards.Advanced skills in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and commercial reporting.Strong knowledge of client invoicing systems, revenue management, and cash flow planning.Experience in claims management, variation orders, price escalation, and contractual amendments.Knowledge of cost control, profitability analysis, and commercial risk management.Experience in subcontractor and procurement commercial management.Proficiency in AutoCAD for reviewing project-related documents is preferred.Knowledge of the ACC system or similar ERP systems is a plus.Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
