Job Description

The Material Engineer serves as the technical backbone of the Material Managementdepartment.

The primary purpose of this role is to bridge the gap between technicalspecifications (engineering/contracts) and execution (procurement/sites).

The job holder isresponsible for resolving technical discrepancies, accelerating consultant approvals(submittals), sourcing smart alternatives, and eliminating material-related delays across allactive projects.

Core Responsibilities & Duties Technical Review & Conflict Resolution (BOQ vs.

Reality):Thoroughly review material specifications in contract documents and Bills of Quantities(BOQ).

Compare them with actual site requests to ensure absolute technical alignment andproactively flag any discrepancies, vagueness, or technical conflicts early on. Consultant Submittals & Approvals Management:Drive the end-to-end material submittal process.

Prepare technical catalogs, compliancesheets, and physical samples.

Rigorously follow up with the Technical Office and Consultantsto secure "Approved" status without hindering project timelines. Smart Technical Sourcing & Alternatives:Conduct market research to find alternative materials for rare, high-cost, or unusual projectrequests.

Present cost-effective, fully compliant, and technically sound alternative proposalsto the Material Manager and Technical Office. Cross-Functional Coordination (The Interface Hub):Act as the daily technical liaison to resolve issues smoothly between multiple stakeholders,including Site Teams, Project Management, Procurement, Technical Office, and ContractsDepartments. Subcontractor & Composite Items Management ("Supply & Install"):Closely monitor and break down complex "Supply and Install" contracts.

Define the exactscope of materials, accessories, and consumables between the company and subcontractorsbefore execution to avoid any gaps or hidden costs.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Architectural). Experience: 3–5 years of solid experience in construction material coordination,technical office, or material procurement within large-scale construction companies. Technical Skills:o Deep understanding of structural/architectural materials (steel structures,sandwich panels, finishes, etc.).o Strong ability to read contracts, technical specifications, and BOQs.o Proficiency in reading engineering drawings. Soft Skills (Crucial for the Role):o Exceptional Communication & Negotiation Skills: Ability to de-escalateconflicts between site engineers and procurement, and professionally handledemanding consultants.o High Integrity & Professional Ethics: Strict adherence to quality standardsand transparent sourcing practices.o Proactive Problem-Solving: Anticipating bottlenecks before they impact theconstruction schedule.
