BIM Electrical Design Engineer

The BIM Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for delivering electrical system designs using BIM as a platform for development, analysis, and coordination.

The role focuses on power, lighting, ELV, and fire alarm system design across all project stages, ensuring compliance with international standards. BIM is utilized to enhance design accuracy, coordination, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:* Develop electrical system designs from concept to IFC stage using BIM tools.

• Perform load calculations, demand estimation, and diversity analysis for buildings.
• Design complete electrical systems including:
• LV power distribution (MDB, SMDB, DBs)
• Cable sizing and voltage drop calculations
• Earthing and bonding systems
• Lightning protection systems
• Design lighting systems including:
• Lux level calculations and fixture selection
• Emergency lighting design
• Design ELV systems such as:
• Data/telecom
• CCTV
• Access control
• SMATV (as per project requirements)
• Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA.
• Develop BIM models (LOD 200–300) as a design tool, ensuring accurate representation of calculated systems.
• Prepare and review:
• Single line diagrams (SLD)
• Load schedules
• Cable routing layouts
• Equipment layouts and details
• Design reports and calculation sheets
• Ensure compliance with:
• International standards (IEC, NFPA)
• Perform design coordination with mechanical, architectural, and structural disciplines.
• Conduct clash detection and resolve issues during design stages.
• Review contractor shop drawings and BIM models (LOD 400) to ensure compliance with design intent.
• Support tender documentation and respond to technical queries during bidding.

Qualifications:* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

• 4–8 years of experience in electrical design within a consultancy environment.
• Experience in full project lifecycle (concept → IFC).

Technical Skills:* Strong knowledge of:

• Electrical power distribution design
• Lighting design and calculations
• ELV and fire alarm systems
• Proficiency in:
• Autodesk Revit MEP (as a design tool)
• Dialux / Relux (lighting design)
• ETAP or similar (load flow / short circuit – preferred)
• Navisworks Manage (coordination)
• Good knowledge of:
• IEC standards
• NFPA codes
• UAE authority regulations (DEWA, DCD, Etisalat/DU)

• Ability to convert calculations into practical, buildable designs
• High attention to detail in design and BIM outputs
• Strong coordination skills across disciplines
• Ability to review and challenge contractor submissions effectively
