Maintenance Engineer - Mechanical

Equipment Reliability & Maintenance:

• Execute and optimize Preventive (PM) and Predictive (PdM) maintenance schedules for all mechanical assets.Oversee the maintenance of heavy steel plant machinery, including:Melt Shop: Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), Ladle Furnaces (LF), and Cranes.Casting & Rolling: Continuous Casting Machines (CCM), reheating furnaces, rolling stands, shears, and cooling beds.Auxiliary Systems: Hydraulic/pneumatic systems, water treatment plants, air compressors, and gearboxes.Troubleshooting & Emergency Repair:Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) on chronic or catastrophic mechanical failures to prevent recurrence.Provide rapid-response technical support during unplanned breakdowns to minimize costly production downtime.Team Leadership & Safety:Supervise, mentor, and allocate daily tasks to a team of mechanical technicians and fitters.Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), working in confined spaces, and heat-stress management.Spare Parts & Inventory Management:Identify, forecast, and manage critical spare parts inventory to ensure high availability without unnecessary capital tying.Review and approve technical specifications for purchasing new mechanical components.Continuous Improvement:Identify bottlenecks and propose engineering modifications to improve machinery efficiency, lifespan, and safety.Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track work orders, history, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Maintenance or a closely related field.Experience:

• Minimum of 5–7 years of mechanical maintenance experience, specifically within a heavy industry environment (Steel, Mining, or Oil & Gas).

Steel plant experience is highly preferred.Technical Proficiencies:Deep understanding of high-pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems (proportional valves, cylinders, pumps).Strong knowledge of heavy machinery alignment, welding techniques, lubrication systems, and vibration analysis.Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical blueprints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and hydraulic schematics.Soft Skills:Excellent crisis-management and problem-solving skills under high-pressure conditions.Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to communicate effectively with both shop-floor technicians and upper management.Physical Demands: Ability to work in demanding environments (high temperatures, dust, noise) and participate in an on-call rotation for emergency breakdowns.
